SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS
Seborrheic Dermatitis is a common scaling rash that usually itches. When it occurs on the scalp it is known as dandruff. Seborrheic Dermatitis sometimes appears on eyebrows, eye lids, ears, on the sides of the nose, under armpits, on the chest and back, and around the groin area. Seborrheic Dermatitis is believed to be due to an abnormal increase of a yeast called Pityrosporum ovale. People that have Seborrheic Dermatitis seem to have a reduced resistance to the yeast. This skin condition is not contagious or harmful.

Seborrheic Dermatitis, though it may last for years, usually disappears by itself.

Common Symptoms of Seborrheic Dermatitis:
  • Red Rash - Due to an irritant. Usually caused by an allergic reaction.
  • Circular Patches - A number of red, itchy, circular patches of either weeping or scaling encrusted skin.
  • Greasy Scales - Yellow in color and found on the scalp, eyebrows, ears, or nose.
  • Scaling and Ulcerated Skin - Appearing on the lower legs and ankles. Usually indicative of Stasis Dermatitis.
  • Itchiness - A persistent itchiness or rash may signal the onset of Atopic Dermatitis or eczema.
